Who organized this event?
The NSS-CoP co-organized this event with Dr. Adrian Guta and Dr. Carol Strike, as well as the Canadian Association of HIV Research and the Canadian Association for Global Health.
Who was there?
We invited an interdisciplinary group of 100 safer supply stakeholders to come, including people from BC, Alberta, Ontario, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick. Panelists and attendees included researchers, people who use drugs, health care providers, social care providers, people working in policy and knowledge mobilization, and others.
This was an interdisciplinary conference and many of us wore multiple hats.
Community care
We hoped to make the day comfortable, inclusive, and as safe as possible. To that end, we had:
- A counselor on site if folks wanted someone to debrief with;
- An equity, diversity, and inclusion specialist who helped us nurture a positive, respectful, and collaborative environment;
- A health room staffed by overdose prevention workers; and,
- A connection with ONPUD for support, information, and resources.
