Objective
This report is grounded in lived experience, and aims to provide a history of methadone therapy (MT) in the United States, to summarize the conference proceedings that led to this reports development, and to offer policy and practice recommendations with specific recommendations per target group. Last, it offers some future directions.
Findings/Key points
Their path to liberating methadone has six focus areas: 1. Centering living and lived experience in policy and practice, 2. Normalizing MT as standard healthcare, 3. Grounding methadone treatment (MT) in person-centered care, 4. Improving Opioid Treatment Program practices, 5. Creating alternatives to the current opioid treatment system, and 6. Shifting public perception about MT.
