Objective

The two main objectives are: (1) Provide comparable, valid and up-to-date data on costs and harms of substance use in Canada, and (2) to allow people to actively explore and analyze the data through the interactive data visualization tool.

Findings/Key points

The cost of substance use-related harms across Canada is $49.1 billion, split between lost productivity costs ($22.4 billion), healthcare costs ($13.4 billion), criminal justice costs ($10.0 billion), and other direct costs ($3.3 billion).
