This guide is about supporting people who use drugs (PWUD) during extreme cold weather events. It discusses why PWUD are at increased risk from these events, other risks that impact PWUD and additional environmental and social risks. Furthermore, signs and symptoms of cold-related illnesses/injuries and what to do about them are outlined. This guide considers how harm reduction programs can support service users during extreme cold and how it impacts harm reduction practices, like naloxone use.
